ABOUT
My name is Connor Charlton and I am a high distinction graduate of Carleton University’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program, working as a parachute development specialist at MMIST in Ottawa, Ontario.
I was previously the Vice President of Academics for CIDSA - the Carleton Industrial Design Student Association.
I previously attended and graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Welding and Fabrication Techniques, as well as passing a CWBA test for SMAW - Flat Position.
My largest and proudest project to date was my capstone project for my degree where I worked with the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun community in northern Yukon to design a means of transportation tailored to their needs and their environment. My main goal was creating something easily manufacturable in a remote community, easy to repair, easy to use, with ergonomics suited to the people of the community.
My passions lie in creative exploration and design in woodworking, metal working, and digital media. As a former welder and a hobby woodworker, I often find myself taking on small to large projects at home. I enjoy the process and of imagining a project, ideating and visually solidifying it in SolidWorks and Keyshot, and finally bringing it to life using whatever construction methods I have available to me.
Outside of work and design I am an amateur cook and botanist who likes to stay active and fit, either by being in the gym or playing sports. I have discovered I am a huge plant enthusiast and have carefully nurtured a jungle within my apartment, which is home to over 25 different tropical plants - most of which I have grown from small cuttings. Over the years I have developed a love of cooking, and enjoy pushing the limits of my skills and knowledge by attempting to master a plethora of local and ethnic cuisines, as well as advanced culinary techniques.
